"When foreigners come to France, we expect them to follow our rules and respect our culture. I will do the same when I go to Qatar." Hugo Lloris, captain of the French national football team, explains why he will not wear a rainbow band at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He also added that he believes too much pressure is put on players to show solidarity with protesters while their focus should be on the upcoming matches. Various European football federations voiced their interest in having their team captains wear the One Love armbands to the World Cup. FIFA has a history of banning and punishing political protests by players and teams during matches, but has made certain exceptions in the past.
