Palestinian creates tyre recycling project to help reduce environmental damage

In the besieged Gaza Strip, 27-year-old Madian Helles created a car tyre recycling project to help reduce environmental damage. The project recycles used tyres for multiple uses including for use by the local football club Al-Shujaia which relies on recycled rubber tyres to maintain pitches. Between 100,000 and 150,000 damaged tyres accumulate in the Gaza Strip annually. Around 2.3 million Palestinians live in the territory, which has been under a crippling Israeli-Egyptian blockade since 2007.
