Hey guys and welcome to my most ambitious one-off video yet! In this video we'll be discussing the current generation of Paradox Grand Strategy Games, comparing them all and talking about each in general terms, covering the gameplay loop, time period, and general role of the player! I always see people on r/paradoxplaza asking which game they should play, so hopefully this little video will be an easy way to figure out which game you should play first (or next)! Below are time-stamps for each section with short descriptions: 1:01 Crusader Kings 2: -769-1453 -Good for roleplay -Play as a ruler, not as a country or kingdom like you might expect. -War is prominent, but so are assassinations, diplomacy, and court intrigue in general! 4:25 Europa Universalis 4: -1444-1821 -Risk x1000 -Play as the "ruling council" of a nation in the era of early nation states. -Really flexible in what you set for your goals and how you develop your nation, including with warfare, trade, or colonization! 7:27 Victoria 2: -1836-1936 -19th Century economy simulator -Play as the "spirit" of your nation as industrial change affects the world. -You can imperialize, industrialize, militarize, revolutionize, etc etc. -Form-able nations which give good challenges and add immersion, e.g. Germany and Italy, among others! -Overall great game, immersive, fun, and replayable. 15:30 Hearts of Iron 4: -1936-Until you feel like ending(but probably around 1950 max)? -WW2 simulator -Play as any country in the world -Good to create alternate history -Lacks depth in it's current state, but still a good game. 21:57 Stellaris: -Essentially Civ in space. -Create a civilization with certain ethics and help them progress in space -Wonderful story-telling -Warfare needs work, but is alright and looks better than the other GSGs. 25:46 Hearts of Iron 3: -WW2 Simulator -As opposed to HoI4, this game is very challenging. -Not as easy to make alternate history happen because tech/manpower/industrial differences are harder to overcome. This ends up making the game more challenging as a minor nation, where as in HoI4 minors just feel like slightly smaller major powers. -Bad graphics and a good bit of micro, but great game overall, very skill-based and makes you feel like a real general! Anywho, if you have any questions please ask them in the comments below, and if you enjoyed this video, please leave a like and subscribe for more!
