Hundreds of people gathered in front of mosques and Islamic centres across Lebanon following Friday prayer in protest over the Swedish police granting permission for a demonstration in which another burning of the Quran is planned to take place. On Thursday, during a televised speech, Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah called on all worshippers to hold protests after Friday prayer and demand that Lebanese authorities expel the Swedish ambassador. Demonstrations are being held across the Muslim-majority world weeks after a man set fire to pages of the Quran outside Stockholm's main mosque leading to widespread condemnation. Iraq expelled its ambassador while Saudi Arabia and Iran announced in separate statements that they had summoned Swedish diplomats.
