Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki said that Saudi Arabia has put forward "different conditions" for its normalisation with Israel, during a press conference in the occupied city of Ramallah on Thursday, which include the end of Israeli occupation. Maliki expressed his hopes that Saudi Arabia does not yield to pressure from the US to compromise on its conditions for normalisation. Saudi Arabia and Israel are believed to be inching closer to establishing official relations. Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen told Channel 12 on Monday that Israel was "the closest it has ever been to a peace agreement with Saudi Arabia". Cohen added that he expected a deal to be announced by next March. In 2020, Israel established diplomatic relations with the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan as part of the Abraham Accords brokered by the then US President Donald Trump. Riyadh has so far maintained it will not normalise ties until Palestinians are granted statehood.
